On January 11, 2020 the Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Austin celebrated and honored 20 Diocesan school heroes. These individuals are members of our communities who give so much to advance the mission of Catholic schools in the Diocese of Austin. This year Fr. Mark Hamlet, Pastor of Sacred Heart Church and Our Kids at Heart Chairman received the Kellerman Memorial Leadership Award!
More good news on our outreach. OKAH has been asked to partner with a couple of Parish St. Vincent DePaul Societies and Catholic Charities to identify families who elect to send their children to Catholic schools. We can think of no better way to evangelize families than through the Catholic education of their children. A team of Catholic school “Ambassadors” is being formed to help these families navigate the process. We ask for your prayers and support. We have seen that Catholic education can help break poverty’s hold on these families, and assure the success of their children.
Our tuition Subsidy program is becoming a tool in the toolbox of case workers dealing with challenging family situations.

Thanks to the generosity of the supporters of the #OurKidsatHeart tuition fund, Aly’s mom was able to enroll her younger son, Juan, in the same Catholic School that her daughter attends. Aly has been in the Cathedral School of St. Mary’s for three years; she has learned to pray, to be more kind, merciful and respectful toward others. Now Juan will experience the same #Catholic education and they will walk together into the Journey of the Catholic Faith!

On Tuesday, June 11, 2019 we received a generous gift from the Knights of Columbus from St. Catherine of Siena Parish. With their contribution, we will be able to supplement the tuition of one of our students to attend Catholic School next school year. May God continue blessing their Ministry!
Anthony, Grade 12, and his sister, Hellen, Grade 11, both attend San Juan Diego Catholic High School. They are beneficiaries of the Our Kids at Heart Tuition Fund. They, with other members of their Parish, Sacred Heart Church, joined the 2019 Texas Rally for Life that was held last Saturday, January 26, 2019. The Texas Rally for Life commemorated the 46th anniversary of the tragic Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision in 1973, which made abortion legal throughout all nine months of pregnancy. In the wake of Roe, legal abortion in our nation has claimed the lives of more than 60 million unborn children and has hurt countless women and men.
“You bring me a letter of acceptance to a Catholic school for your child, and I promise your child will attend Catholic school.” This is the promise Father Mark Hamlet, BA ’68 MBA ’70, makes to his congregation at every Mass. The pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Austin, Hamlet has spent much of his ministry advocating for Catholic school education through his nonprofit foundation, Our Kids at Heart.

Thanks to God’s grace and your support, we have been able to provide opportunities for more than 150 students from the poorest families to experience Catholic education.
The alumni from the class of 1968 seated dinner on Friday October 12, 2018 to celebrate the Golden Crusaders 50th Class Reunion. On Sunday October 14,2018 the farewell Mass was celebrated with Fr. Mark Hamlet, alumni from the Class 1968.
